Introduction:
One of the favorite food of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was Tharid, a Traditional Arabian Dish. Tharid is a healthy stew made with meat, vegetables and bread. It’s known for it’s rich flavors and nutritional benefits. This dish is not only delicious but also carries historical and cultural significance.

The superiority of ‘Aisha to other ladies is like the superiority of Tharid to other kinds of food.

Ingredients

  • 500g lamb or beef, cut into chunks
  • 2 large onions, (chopped)
  • 3 cloves garlic, (minced)
  • 2 large tomatoes, (chopped)
  • 2 carrots, (sliced)
  • 2 potatoes, (cubed)
  • 1 zucchini, ( sliced)
  • 1 cup chickpeas, (cooked)
  • 4 cups beef or lamb broth
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 pieces of flatbread (pita or naan)

Instructions

  1. Heat the Olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and garlic and saute until they are golden brown.
  2. Add the Meat chunks to the pot and brown them on all sides.
  3. Stir in the Tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, zucchini and chickpeas. Cook for a few minutes until the vegetables start to soften.
  4. Pour in the broth and add the cumin, coriander, cinnamon, salt and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the meat is tender.
  5. Tear the flatbread into pieces and place them in serving bowls.
  6. Ladle the stew over the bread pieces, allowing the bread to soak up the flavorful broth.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy.
